Kramat Jati Fire Survivors Grateful for Aid

Muhammad Kamdi (54), a fruit trader and fire survivor at Kramat Jati Central Market, East Jakarta, expressed his gratitude to Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung for the Rp 5 million aid provided.

Kamdi is one of the 121 fruit traders whose stalls were razed in the fire at the Block C2 Fruit Sub-Wholesale area of Kramat Jati Central Market on Monday morning (12/15).

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), today, representing the traders, I express my gratitude to the Governor, who has shown great care and concern for our condition," he said, after symbolically receiving the aid on Tuesday (12/16).

He noted that the Governor's presence at the fire site was not only to inspect the situation on the ground but also to provide aid to affected traders, amounting to Rp 5 million each.

He believes this aid is something to be grateful for, as it was given unconditionally. He hopes that, in the future, there will be further aid from other parties, whether from the central government or other related entities.

He also hopes that the preparation of the temporary relocation site for traders will be completed soon, thus trading activities can resume normally before the burnt building is rehabilitated.

"Especially since we are approaching Christmas and New Year; sales turnover usually increases compared to regular days," he explained.

Additionally, Kamdi plans to apply for a business capital loan from Bank Jakarta amounting to Rp 500 million to restart his business operations following the fire.

"I hope we can be assisted with easier access to capital credit," he expressed.

Similar sentiments were echoed by another trader, Rohayati (51).

According to her, the aid is very meaningful as a gesture of the government's concern for the traders' needs.

"We express our thanks and appreciation to the Governor for this aid . It is certainly very beneficial for us," she said.

She has been trading at Kramat Jati Central Market for 15 years and employs 12 workers. Every month, she pays a wage by Rp 2 million to each employee.

"I hope that no more fires occur and that trading activities at the market can continue to grow," she concluded.
